Battle of the Bruhes!! – Foundation edition

Battle of the Bruhes!! – Foundation edition

For the longest time I used a flat foundation brush to apply my liquid foundations. I never really liked the finish it gave and always found that my foundation ended up being streaky. I actually didn’t know that you could use other brushes to apply liquid foundations. I was a makeup newbie.  Then last April the hubby let me spend a whole bunch of money at MAC cosmetics (Love him!) and the lady there introduced me to a variety of brushes that can be used to apply foundation. Since then I have purchased a couple and you may be surprised to find out which brush is my ultimate Fave! brushes   brushes2

MAC 130 – This is the first brush I purchased during my April shopping spree at MAC. I fell in love with this brush when the lady who was doing my makeup used it on me and even though the price point was $50 I had to buy it!  This brush is a “short, round, flat topped brush ideal for the smooth easy application of foundations, creams, emulsions and select powder products. Features a blend on natural bristles and synthetic fibres” The first couple uses of this brush was great! Gave medium coverage and a non streak finish. HOWEVER after using it for 3 days the brush began to shed. And I don’t mean once in a while one hair here and there I mean every application and 3-5 hairs at a time. You can imagine my annoyance with this. The last thing you want to be doing after you’ve primed and have foundation on is to be picking up loose hairs on your face. So I  exchanged it for a brand new brush. For the first week or so it was fine. Then it began to shed again. Up until recently I bared with the shedding because despite the hairs that were left behind for me to pick up this brush I loved the finished look of  my foundation.

elf studio powder face brush – I LOVE,LOVE, LOVE this brush. This brush is advertised as a powder brush but  works wonders for liquid foundations! And the price point of $3.00  makes it even more amazing! Watching youtube videos on foundation application I found that the Sigma F80 and Coastal scents flat kabuki brush were a favourite of many. So I checked it out online but the shipping was crazy  ridiculous that I set out to find an alternative. That’s when I found the elf brush! The bristles on this brush are super soft on your face and the finished look is FLAWLESS. It also provides a full coverage finish. I will be purchasing another to use exclusively for powders as well.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush – I’m also in LOVE with this brush! (You can love more than one thing at a time right..) This brush has a rounded head that’s not to big, but not to small which makes it perfect for the entire face. The bristles are compact and firm but still remain soft on the face. I purchased this from London Drugs for $9.99 so the price point of this brush is decent as well. I Love to use this brush to blend out my concealer under my eyes. As for foundation I found that I needed to use a bit more product than usual. I found this brush kind of soaks up the product leaving less to apply on your face. BUT I’ll over look that because of the airbrush finish it leaves behind.

VERDICT

So which is my ULTIMATE FAVOURITE foundation brush?! The winner would have to my ELF studio powder face brush!!!  It doesn’t shed, it spreads the foundation evenly over my face without soaking up to much of the product and leaves a flawless finish. but the BEST part of it all is that it only cost me $3.00 to attain such perfection.

Do you own any of these brushes? What are your thoughts on them? What is your ultimate favourite foundation brush? Get lippie with me and leave a comment below.

Till next time xo – Beth

I went to my local drugstore and walked up and down the makeup aisle because I didn’t know if I should get the RT face brush and I’m glad I didn’t. Now I need to get that elf brush!

Yes find that elf brush! You can get it at Target or walmart in the states. If you are in Canada superstore carries elf 🙂 To me the RT brush is nothing special! I could live without it. Kind of a waste of my $10!
