Products I wanted to LOVE

As I’ve been experimenting with makeup I have come across some products that at first impressions I Loved! But as time went on our Love affair ended. Thankfully Sephora has a fantastic return or exchange policy! I have been in and out of my Sephora like crazy as of late and I swear the workers know me and have a warning she’s a little crazy picture of me at the back. But hey its their policy right?! Lets begin the list of my ex-lovers.

studio skin    smashbox

The fist two items on my list are the Smashbox Studio Skin foundation and the Smashbox photo finish primer. Initially  I loved these products. I was visiting my parents and had just come from Sephora where I tried on this foundation and my mom couldn’t stop gushing about how flawless my skin looked! So I immediately went to purchase the fully size. However after about a week I noticed that the foundation as well as the primer were clinging to some dry spots on my forehead and that the foundation between my eyebrows, chin and nose area began to flake and get cakey. I tried the foundation with a different primer to see if it was just the primer itself and vise versa but regardless if I used a different primer or different foundation with the primer I would still end up with the same results.

LMnars

The next two items on my list are the Laura Mercier Radiance primer and the NARS radiance enhancing primer. As you may know I have been on the hunt for a holy grail primer (which I have had no luck finding yet) and was so stoked to try these two primers as I’ve read so many good things about them and they have been raved to be part of the best top ten primers out there. Well that wasn’t the case for me. The Laura Mercier was tinted in colour and I felt that it made me look darker and changed the way my foundation looked on me. As for the Nars, the primer had a fragrance that sorta smelled like sunblock, I wasn’t to fond of it and it to changed the way my foundation looked on me but not for the better in my opinion.

mufe

Last but not least I come to the new Makeup forever skin equalizing primers.  I so wanted to love this product. I kept calling my local to Sephora to see if they had gotten them in stock yet and when they finally did I rounded up my three kiddos and off we went to get my hands on these! At first I bought the mattifying primer which worked fantastic in my T-zone but was just to drying everywhere else that my skin actually cracked. So I exchanged it for the smoothing primer however my foundation (naked skin by urban decay) would separate and cake with this primer so this too was a return. Another pet peeve I have about these primers is that you have to buy them all separately. I mean what I look for in a primer is something that includes mattifying or hydrating depending on your skin type, smoothing, minimizes the appearance of pores and colour correcting all in one. Or at least most of these properties which from some reviews I’ve read the discontinued MUFE HD primer offered. I understand how being able to buy them separately could be a good thing for example if someone had an oily t-zone but normal to dry skin elsewhere they could purchase the mattifying and hydrating primer. But that’s a total of $100 and I’m unwilling to spend $60 for the hour glass veil primer (I mean come on I do have kids to feed and clothe!)

So there you have it lippies my list of ex-lovers. Still on the lookout for that holy grail primer so if you have any suggestions throw them at me!

Until next time lippies xo – Beth
