5 Ways Your Smartphone can bring You closer to God

Bible Verses, How to use your smartphone to get closer to God, 5 ways your smartphone can bring you closer to God, Draw near to God

Smartphones have become such a huge part of our everyday lives. I never leave the house without my phone and if I’m being honest, it’s always within arms reach from me. I’m sure you’ve heard it all before, how phones can be such a distraction and how the use of it can be so toxic. Depending on what you’re watching or listening to on your phone, this can be true! So let’s change the narrative. Here are 5 ways that you can use your smartphone to bring you closer to God.

1. Read and listen to the Bible on the go

You guys there are multiple Bible apps that you can download right onto your smartphone! The two apps that I have on my phone are the You Version Bible App and the Bible Gateway App. Both of these apps have multiple versions of the bible that you can download so that you always have it on your phone. Personally I prefer the English Standard Version (ESV) and the New King James Version (NKJV). Not only can you read the bible on the go you can also play the audio versions and listen to the Word of God while you’re driving, cooking, taking a shower, you name it!

2. Listen to Preachings on Podcasts

Let’s face it, sometimes you can be reading the bible and have no idea how to implement the Word in present time. There are many podcasts that explain the Word and Scriptures for you to gain a deeper understanding. Myself and a couple leaders in our church started a podcast such as this! It’s called King’s Chapel Canada and you can tune in via Spotify, Google Play Music, Soundcloud and Apple Podcasts. Jonathan Shuttlesworth and Adalis Shuttlesworth are an evangelist couple that also have amazing revelations on the Word in their podcasts! And finally The Sara V Podcast has episodes that are short and sweet and to the point. These are all the podcasts that I listen to and they have truly lit a fire in my Spirit!

3. Download a Praise and Worship Play list

Music is everything to me! I started singing at the young age of 4 and have always expressed myself through music. Depending on the song, music can either uplift your spirit or depress it. One of my favourite playlists on spotify is the Praise and Worship 2020 playlist. I listen to this playlist on the daily! It has so many strong songs and every time I listen to this playlist I find myself drawing near to God, lifting my hands and just singing and praising him. What better way to enter in to the presence of God than through worshiping him with a song of praise.

4. Start a Devotional Plan on the Bible App

Remember the Bible apps I suggested you download? Well in those apps you can start a Devotional Plan! A devotional provides a scriptural reading for everyday of the plan. There are daily devotional plans, plans that only take 3 days or plans that take 7 days and so forth. Devotionals have a purpose and provide a time for prayer and meditation on God’s Word. Personally I don’t have a devotional plan. What I do is spend time in prayer first, then before I open my Bible I ask the Lord to speak to me through his Word. I tell him that I’m expecting him to give me a revelation as I’m reading his Word, I invite the his presence and the Holy Spirit to come down and minister to me and thank him in advance for the word I’m going to receive from him that day. If you’re new at this I would recommend starting a devotional plan so that you can learn the format and flow of a devotional time.

5. Set a daily alarm to spend time with God

It is SO important to set aside some time with the Lord EVERYDAY. I know everyone gets busy, I’m busy, we are all busy so what better way to ensure that we spend sometime with the one who matters most than to set an alarm everyday. My hubby, Paul, has an alarm every morning at 6AM and he uses that time to immerse himself in God’s word. I wait until the kids are in school and Paul has left the house for work and that’s when I spend my time with the Lord every morning. Whether it’s early morning or late at night (although it should be morning and night Joshua 1:8) set aside a time that you can focus on the Lord and just thank him for everything. And of course you can bring to him your prayer requests as well because Jesus did say in John 16:24 Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. NKJV
